• A major problem in Liberia is the lack of financial resources and appropriate governmental mechanisms to fully address the important issue of waste management. Members of CII Liberia group 4 in Buchanan are trying to address this problem by creating a waste management business to decrease garbage/pollution to prevent illness, maintain wellbeing, to aesthetically enhance the community, and to most importantly free their environs of vermin

Backstory

In Liberia abject poverty, inadequate management capacity at the government level due to insufficient monetary resources have resulted in the inability of cities/villages to provide basic garbage collection services. Waste management is one of the basic services that is neglected in developing countries, resulting in an increase in preventable illnesses. The most important expectant outcomes of this project will be effective waste pollution control, increased public awareness of the need to get rid of waste, and increase public policy and monies appropriated towards waste management. On a more personal level, this important community project will create jobs and help create a more cleaner, sanitary environment.
