About The Project

$860 is the investment he needs to get to the next level of fishing.

$260 is the savings his family will invest in this venture

John Mensah is eager to increase the earnings of his family fishing business. To do this, he is seeking an investment to purchase materials such as nets, canoes, and motors - all essential components of pursuing larger, more valuable fish who typically reside in deeper parts of the ocean. John also hopes to also start a small gas area in the community to sell gasoline to other canoe owners that have motorized canoes.  He feels that can be very successful.  In addition, this investment could allow for innovation in the work streams of John's four other family members Martha, Kadarius, Given, and Peter, who each work hard to contribute to the family business.

"An investment will help send my children to High School and Universities.  And I will also train others in my community about the fishing business" ... John Mensah

Paying it Forward

Paying it forward to 5 families.  John Has sent money to two very poor families in Grand Bassa County, but also to a fisherman and a student in Ghana.  During the Covid lockdown he helped a widow whose roof was leaking.  She and her children often have sleepless nights whenever it rains.  She has no one else to assist her.

Backstory

LB0002:  The main bread-earner in a family of 8, John Mensah is a talented fisherman and leader who is eager to increase the profitability of his business in order to create opportunities for his family and other community members. With this ambition in mind, John was able to connect with our team of researchers at Princeton University as he continues to develop his fishing store, God Will Provide.  A family business, God Will Provide is all-hands-on-deck and continues to be run by John, his wife Martha, and three of their children. However, with 4 kids in high school and 2 entering the university, John and his family are passionate about investing in their children's education, knowing the value of having a college degree. Not only does John prioritize the opportunities his kids may have, but he is eager to create opportunities for those around him and regularly trains his neighbors in fishing as well.  The Mensah family is dedicated to improving their lives, and the lives of people around them, however, with little income from the fishing business, poor infrastructure in their neighborhood, and high-interest rates on their business loan with the bank, the family has several looming challenges to overcome before they are able to achieve some of their aspirations.
