About The Project

$780 needed to pay yearly rent for shop space and purchase inventory
$260 contributed by Winifred towards her project

With an initial investment Winfred rented land and bought Irish seed potatoes for cultivation. She also contributed to her local savings group. The shared experience with others in this program helped her acquire more farming skills like applying manure, as an organic fertilizer, and spraying crops for pests. She would like to buy a sheep to supply the manure. And future investments will go towards establishing her retail market.

Paying it Forward

Winfred has a sister-in-law with mental health issues who she provides care for. The family also donates money for school needs for many school children.

Backstory

Winfred and her husband, Angello, have seven children. Four of the children are in school. Their oldest daughter is a nurse and married. One son works as a boda boda driver (motorcycle taxi service) and another works as a laborer for others in the village. Their earnings are part of the family income. Winfred and Angello buy and sell produce and livestock. They also grow some vegetables for sale and this project will help them increase their vegetable production. Winfred says her family has struggled putting food on the table but this project has effected positive change in their lives, and this is a source of pride for the family.
