About The Project

Shukuru Nyiransaba grows maize for selling. When she received an investment fund of $100 from CII Project, she invested it maize growing by adding organic manure in her garden and she hopes to harvest more in July 2022. 

She plans to further expand her maize farming by hiring more land for farming. She has also invested in poultry to diversify her family's economic activities. 


Paying it Forward

Shukuru is a member of community based organizations like a parent's association and a village health team that works to prevent domestic violence in the community and she says when her business improves, many others benefit directly and indirectly

Backstory

Shukuru is a 28 year old single woman who lives with her 3 children in Rwamwanja where she has lived as a refugee from Congo for 10 years. She has a few relatives in Rwamwanja and is happy that there is peace in Rwamwanja, compared to Congo.

She is proud that she constructed a house for her family and started a poultry business to help her with regular income since maize takes longer to mature and be sold

Her main challenge remains limited capital to invest in her businesses
