I’m Mayila, a 41-year-old widow and mother of five children: Jesca, Jeni, Flora, Laurent, and Paskali. I was able to complete my education up to Class 7 but then I ran out of money to pay for the rest of my schooling. My mother is called Pili and has been suffering from high blood pressure since 2015 and thus has failed to fulfill her responsibilities in caring for herself therefore she depends on me. My husband died in 2014 in an accident and that led to me providing for the family so I started a fish-selling project where I bought fish from vendors and sold them by going door to door.
I was helped by the capital and good people who sympathized with our family. I later came up with the idea of setting up a pond to produce the fish productively after the capital grew a little. Despite having little capital, I still could not build a pool myself, so I had to rent a pool from an old man who is a retired soldier. He agreed to give me one of his ponds found on his farm where I could keep the fish fry. Since the beginning of this project, I thank God that I have managed to provide for my family and thus reduce the difficulties of life in my family. The challenge in my project is the lack of capital that will help me fulfill my dream of having my own fish pond in order to avoid the huge cost I incur to rent a pond per month. Facilitating this project will have helped my family to lift themselves out of poverty and lead my younger siblings to fulfill their educational dreams including facilitating the medical treatment of our mother who is also a widow.
