About The Project

$875 needed to purchase materials to upgrade his hen house
$125 contributed by Emmanuel towards his project

An initial investment helped Emmanuel buy the materials to build a chicken coop, and more chicks and hens. He also put money into his local SACCO (savings) program. As his income has increased from egg and chicken sales, he has seen his family’s life improve as basic needs are met. He and others in his community have benefited from discussing new business ideas through these projects.

Paying it Forward

As his poultry business grows, he will be creating job opportunities for others.

Backstory

But he also works as guide helping tourists with activities in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. His wife works for other local farmers. And now he has started his poultry project, adding yet another income stream. They have 2 very young children that have not started school. He is a member of Mgahinga Forest User’s Society that plant trees at the border of the national park to help prevent animals from leaving park land to eat and damage crops.
