About The Project

$840 needed to purchase a sewing machine and materials to grow her business

$475 contributed by Merab towards her project

With an initial investment Merab bought materials for her clothing business and chicks for her husband’s poultry business. She also put some money into her local group savings program for future business needs. With future investments, she would like to purchase two sewing machines, each with a different function. She wants to grow her clothing business by training family members to design and sew. Her increased income will help her family with basic needs of tuition fees, medical care and food.

Paying it Forward

Merab cares about her community and has helped families with cash, mobile money, dresses, food etc. She will pay it forward by sharing her business experience with others and is planning to offer sewing training as well. When she expands her business, she is hoping to hire people in her community.

Backstory

Merab lives with her husband, Fred, and three school aged children. Fred is a teacher and has a side business of raising chickens. They work together as a team to improve Merab’s business. Through Merab’s shared experiences with others in the project, her long-range goal is to open a shop where she will sell both retail and wholesale merchandise. Merab notes that improvements in roads, education (especially teaching usable skills), farming methods, safe water and market places will benefit her community and improve the standard of living for all.
