$570 needed to purchase materials and to rent a space
$140 contributed by Rozia towards her project
Rozia wants to develop her skills and improve the quality of the products she makes. She realizes that a quality product will bring a greater profit. Her vision is to set up shop in a nearby town will give her business better exposure to tourists visiting the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Rozia sees the opportunity to “pay it forward” by teaching her children craft making. This will give them a trade as they continue school, and they will be helping increase the family income by providing labor thus creating a larger profit margin for the craft business.
Rozia is recently divorced and lives with her two small children. Her son just started school and her daughter is in a nursery school. She currently buys and resells Irish potatoes, onions and wheat to supplement her handicrafts business. She would like a larger home with a good roof and to buy some more furniture. She would like to grow organic vegetables that would contribute to the health of her family. She faces the typical challenges of her village: no electricity, school and medical center are not close, and the roads are poor.
