About The Project

$685 needed to purchase a cow and hens
$250 contributed by James towards his project

James main source of income is from selling potatoes and chickens. James was very excited as initial investment helped him afford his first cow. He will use the manure from the cow to fertilize his potato crop, thus increasing production. The cow will provide milk for his family and a source of income. With future investments he would like to buy more cows.  He will be able to sell manure to other farmers and sell the milk to families. He will also continue to grow his poultry business. The chickens will provide eggs for his family and for sale. With multiple sources of income James will be able to improve the quality of life for his family. And the sales of milk and eggs will help improve the lives of other families.

Paying it Forward

James pays for a nephew’s school tuition. He also helps organize the community in road improvement efforts. His growing farm business will be a source of nutrition to the community by way of milk and eggs.

Backstory

James lives with his wife and three school aged children. One of his goals is to provide an education for his children. He also pays the school tuition for a nephew. His wife, Joylece, earns a small income buying and selling beans and peas. Growing his cow herd, maintaining his chicken flock and increasing his potato production will help James improve his home and sanitation system and provide his family a well balance diet and needed medical care. He would like to see the Kisoro District gain a more educated community and make infrastructure improvements. He would also like to see the agricultural activities of the area practice better conservation of the environment. James helps organize the community to clear pathways to homes and build small feeder roads to nearby trading centers.
