Esperance sells food items at her home in Base Camp 4 trading centre. She mostly sells Cassava flour, tomatoes and cooking oil. She sells from her compound during the day and later takes them to a daily evening market near her home in their trading centre. Her business has consistently earned her profits due to which she is able to pay for her children’s education – 2 of them are in the final class of higher secondary level.
She hopes to expand her business if she gets more funding. Esperance and her children also grow maize and beans for home consumptionEsperance is a 47-year-old single woman who lives with her 7 children in Rwamwanja where they have lived as refugees from Congo for the last 8 years. 4 of her children are in secondary schools while 3 are still in primary school.
