$720 needed to rent land and purchase materials to start her farming business
$15 contributed by Jackline towards her project
Jackline and her family scratch out a living selling potatoes left over from neighbor’s harvests, avocados and providing farm labor. Initial investment money has bought a sheep and two hens to help provide her family with immediate income. She will use future investment to buy materials so that she can weave baskets to start her basket business.
Jackline wants to increase the family goat herd and chicken flock so that she can provide animals to her siblings when they are ready to leave the family home.
Jackline lives with her 2-year-old daughter, her parents and a younger brother and sister. Life has been a struggle since being displaced for the creation of the national park. Currently, the family cannot afford school for her siblings. A safe place to live, better roads, schools and medical clinics are improvements needed in this area. Having land to grow food and raise animals would be invaluable to her family. Jackline and her friends will continue to try to make their voices heard as they reach out for support from the government for improved living conditions.
