Abraham's Small Banking Business Center
LB0020: In 2016, Abraham graduated from the Bassa High School in Buchanan. But before he finished high school, his older brother went out of business. So Abraham moved to Monrovia to make a living and help support his family. His friend Jacob Chenny was holding about $40,000LRD ($200USD) that he returned so that he could start his business. And in March 2018 Abraham began his business with money exchanging and selling of scratch cards. Eight months later, he added Lonestar GSM Mobile Money services to the business. Then in February 2019, he added the Orange GSM Mobile Money Services.Abraham’s business sustains him and his family of four, including his two children. Through his business, Abraham looks to earn enough to return to school and obtain his university education. One of his greatest challenges is supporting extended family who ask him for help, which he does through his business. Another of his challenges is credit and relationships with customers. Abraham credits mobile money to customers’ family members and friends, but his customers do not always pay him back on time. Abraham, however, places value in his relationship with customers, offering them credit because he wants to maintain these relationships across time.
